08.08 One Of Us Is Wrong by Samuel Holt

One Of Us Is Wrong (1986) by Samuel Holt
Pbk., Tor, 311p.

Samuel Holt is another of the many pseudonyms that the great author Donald E. Westlake writes under (Richard Stark, Curt Clark, Tucker Coe). The Samuel Holt books were written in the mid-80's and feature as the main character...Sam Holt. Sam is an ex-cop who starred in a hit detective TV series called PACKARD. The series ended and now he lives in a Bel Air mansion just chillin' and living the LA life.

Sam has various friends in the industry and in this book a producer buddy gets him tangentially involved in a strange caper involving a hot teenybopper, some terrorists and a whole lot of trouble.

Basically, if you know anything about Westlake these books are lots like his Dortmunder novels (quite humorous) but also have a bit of the Parker (tough guy) thrown in there as well. A light easy read but thoroughly enjoyable.

I like the cover, when you first look at it you can't really figure out what it is.

This is fun novel, there was also another Sam Holt book. After Stark I'm most fond of Westlake's non-Dortmunder books.

I don't think I've read any of his Samuel Holt books. I'll keep an eye out. I had trouble figuring out the cover as well.

I spotted that you mention you are looking for anything from Desmond Cory. His older books are difficult to find in original hardcover but they are now being republished in print and electronic on Amazon
